Orbs ....Ghost or dust?

With the arrival of digital photography, increasingly people
have been noticing strange looking spherical shapes on their photographs.
These have most commonly been given the term of ‘orbs’. There are two main
schools of thought on the subject.
1. Those that believe that these photographic anomalies show the manifestation
of a ghost or some other type of energy
2. Those that believe that they have a much more rational and natural explanation.
So
are they evidence of a ghost or is there a natural explanation?
The scientific evidence for the common photographic orb is very heavily weighed
towards the natural explanation. Generally it is accepted that the photographs
with the spherical grey flat looking anomalies is a product of digital camera
technology and objects very close to the focal point of the camera lens such
as an out of focus dust particle or moisture droplets in the air. It is very
easy to be mistaken that there is no dust floating around in the air when
you take a photograph but a very simple test to verify this is to point a
torch light in a darkened room and watch for yourself the dust particles
in the beam of light.
Another simple way to eliminate unwanted ‘dust orbs’ with video and C.C.T.V
equipment when on a vigil is to remove the light source away from the camera/
lens. Many of the C.C.T.V cameras come with built in infra red lights built
around the camera lens. Buy the cameras without the infra red lights built
in and use the stand alone light sources that are available. The more expensive
cameras with top mounted flash units are best for ghost photography as
they greatly eliminate the dust orb. If you then catch a light anomaly
on film it may be worthy of further evaluation.
The best way to photograph dust orbs, if you really feel the urge to
that is, is to use the cheaper versions of a digital camera particularly
ones with the flash close to the lens. Use the flash in the dark in a particularly
dusty room or outside at night when there is some fine moisture in the air.
So
what about the orbs on video that seem to be moving in different directions
and seem more solid?
The most obvious natural explanation for this is small insects, flies, moths,
and spiders etc. that reflect the light back from night vision cameras. Of
course they will appear like a white floating light. If you have ever used
night vision cameras you will know that when you stand in front of one with
a black shirt on and… hey presto… on film it’s now white.
So why are orbs mostly filmed in haunted houses?
The main reason for this is that ghost researchers can take hundreds of photographs
on location, normally in the dark with a flash and then carefully examine
each photographic frame for an anomaly. The general public on the other hand
take fewer shots in the dark and are not looking for anomalies in a photograph
hence they find and report less.
Now I have give you a very brief explanation of what 99% of
orb photographs in circulation are It is important to consider that for the
purpose of ghost research that not all light anomalies that are reported
are common dust orbs. Some light anomalies that are reported, although much
rarer, are worthy of further investigation. In particular lights that are
seen with the naked eye. There is of course no evidence to suggest that they
are the manifestation of a ghost and they may indeed have a natural yet unknown
origin but they are much more worthy of further research.
