Chillingham Castle, Northumberland. UK The Blue Boy :The ghostly figure of the blue boy or otherwise know as the radiant boy has been seen in the castle pink room. It is said that on the hour of midnight the sounds of a crying child would be heard. The sounds would appear to come from close to a passage that was cut trough a ten feet wall in to the adjoining tower. As the crying faded away many an overnight guest staying in the pink room would witness a bright light slowly form and manifest into a young boy dressed in blue and surrounded by a brilliant light. From witness statement the young spirit child was dressed from the restoration period (1660s). During the 1920s the bones of a young boy were found behind the wall alongside the child was the skeleton of a man and fragments of blue clothing. The remains were removed and given a decent burial in consecrated grounds. Since then the spirit child has never been seen again. The Ghost in the Portrait – Lady Grey : On many a night as you walk along the corridors of the castle it is said that you may feel a sudden chill of cold air sweep past you of Lady Mary Berkeley still searching for her errant husband. Lady Mary Berkeley was the wife of Lord Grey of Wark and Chillingham. Lord Grey had run away with the sister of Lady Berkley giving rise to a great scandal at the time. Lady Berkeley was left in her dark and lonely castle with only her baby girl as her companion. The White Pantry Ghost : The inner pantry was were the silver was kept and it was the duty of the footman to sleep there and safe guard the family silver. On one particular night it is said that the foot man retired as usual to the panty and locked the door as he was accustomed to do every night. At some point during the night a very pale looking lady in white asked him for some water. His natural and immediate reaction was to think that it was one of the visitors of the castle and he turned to carry out her request. As he did so it stuck him that the door was locked and that she should not have been able to enter the pantry. When he turned to question the lady she had vanished from the locked room. Library : The voices of two men in conversation are often heard talking but on any attempt to hear what is being said the voices abruptly stop. Edinburgh Castle, Scotland Below the castle is a series of secret tunnels leading front he castle and down the Royal Mile. When the tunnels were first discovered several hundred years ago the need to explore the tunnels extent was obvious and a piper was sent down with the intent to keep playing so that his progress could be tracked form above ground. Half way down the Royal Mile the piper suddenly stopped playing and was never heard from again. He had quiet simply vanished. A rescue party that was sent down found no sign of him. To this day legend has it that the lost piper can still be heard on certain nights walking along the underground tunnel beneath the Royal Mile. There are also reports of a lone piper playing on the battlements There is also the legend of the ghostly drummer boy that only appears when the castle is about to be attacked. The ghostly drummer was last reported seen just before an attack on the castle by Cromwellian troops in 1650. Haunted castles
